Shri Gauridutt Mittal Junior College is run under the aegis of “The Balak Education Society”.
“The Balak Education Society.” was formed in the backdrop of India’s struggle for independence. It was therefore logically guided by the old adage:
‘Education makes people easy to lead, but difficult to drive.
Easy to govern, but impossible to enslave”.

The “Balak Education Society” was founded in the year 1936, with the primary objective of providing value-based, relevant and good education intertwined with character building and inculcating a spirit of national fervour among the students. Till MAY 1966, the School was run in a rented building at Matunga under the name of “BALAK MANDIR HINDI HIGH SCHOOL”.
From its humble beginnings at Matunga, Mumbai to its present location at Sion (E), Mumbai, the history of the institution has been the result of dedicated, pragmatic, progressive, relentless and untiring efforts of the management and staff of the institution.

The important milestones in the progress of the institute are as under:
1936 | Formation of “THE BALAK EDCUATION SOCIETY and the opening of “BALAK MANDIR HINDI HIGH SCHOOL” at Matunga – Mumbai. |
1946 | Participation by Philanthropist and business magnate Shri Gauriduttji Mittal in the affairs of the Society. Decision to shift the school from Matunga to Sion-Mumbai. |
1947 | Leasing by the society of 5 plots of land measuring 2900 sq yards at Sion from the Mumbai Muncipal Corporation. |
1961 | MARATHI MEDIUM Classes started. |
1965 | First Batch of Students appeared for SSC. |
1966 | An impressive 4 storey building constructed on two vacant plots at Sion and the Shifting of the school premises from Matunga to the present building at Sion (E), Mumbai. |
1976 | Junior College was established. |
1978 | First batch of students appeared for HSC. |
2008 | 100% result achieved in the Science steam. 98% result achieved in the Commerce stream. |
